The School Art League recognizes the artistic accomplishments of high school students at its Annual Awards Ceremony at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.   Each year a prominent artist or arts educator is honored and presents their work as it relates to contemporary issues. Then award winners are invited to the stage to receive their award.


The School Art League / Art Education / Renee Darvin Award $1,000.

Presented to a senior who has consistently demonstrated excellence and commitment to the visual arts and plans to become an art educator.

The recipient in 2017 is Shelley Chung - Francis Lewis High School.


The School Art League / Jane Clark Chermayeff / Design Award $1,000.

Presented to a senior who excels in visual arts, academic studies and is committed to the study of art and design in college.

The recipient in 2017 is Kiana Hong - Frank Sinatra School of the Arts.


The Jane Curliano Mazzella / Excellence In Visual Arts Award $1,000.

Presented to a senior who excels in visual arts, academic studies and is committed to the study of art in college

The recipient in 2017 is Kian McKeown - Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School.


The Art Directors Club Award $1,000.

Presented to a senior who has completed the Saturday Art Career Workshops with distinction and will continue the study of art in college.

The recipient in 2017 is Helna Zhen - High School of Fashion Industries.


The School Art League Trustees Award $1,000.
In Memory of Dr Paul Patane.

Presented to a senior who excels in visual arts, academic studies, and will continue the study of art in college; and has demonstrated commitment to school and community service.

The recipient in 2017 is Prenz Deone Tupaz - William C. Bryant High School.


Every public high school principal may select students to enter a portfolio for these juried awards. The Department of Education Memo: "School Art League Awards and Scholarships", will be sent to all schools and will be available on our Memos page in early February.
